tijdkring

Robinia wood, stainless steel, varnish
2026
This year, Duivenvoorde Castle in Voorschoten is celebrating its 800th anniversary. For this special occasion, I was invited to create a sculpture that reflects on the rich history of the castle and its park. I drew inspiration from the beautiful and sometimes very old trees (up to 300 years old) in the park.
With my work ‚Tijdkring’, I want to invite visitors to look at these magnificent trees anew, and perhaps with a different perspective.
Every tree holds its own history. By carving into a 60-year-old robinia trunk, I reveal earlier growth rings and information. I worked as if the tree had been shaped by erosion from water, wind, and sand. This gave rise to a new organic form with its own character. ‚Tijdkring’ now stands surrounded by living trees, where it can be reshaped once again by nature.
Many thanks to the Duivenvoorde Foundation, the funds, and everyone involved.
